Smarter Clamping, 4.0: RÖHM unveils the AiChuck world premiere at AMB

Plus two more innovations from the clamping technology specialist: the Mill-Turn Chuck and DURO-A Longlife

One world premiere and two trade show innovations: From September 15 to 19, RÖHM will present several highlights from the world of clamping and gripping technology at AMB in Stuttgart. In Hall 1, Booth 1E31, the company will showcase the next evolutionary stage of “Smarter Clamping” for the first time with the AiChuck, alongside the new Mill-Turn Chuck and the DURO-A Longlife power chuck.

The new technology platform has the potential to “significantly and permanently change our industry,” says Matthias Volz, Head of Business Development at RÖHM.

AiChuck: Always Keeping an Eye on Chuck and Clamping Process Conditions

From clamping force signals to actionable decisions: With the AiChuck technology platform, RÖHM is taking the next step toward intelligently connected clamping technology.

The proven sensor technology of the iJaw is integrated directly into the base jaw of the chuck, making the force conditions within the base jaw visible. AiChuck not only detects irregularities related to the condition of the chuck and the clamping process, as well as changes in the force transmission caused, for example, by friction, contamination, insufficient lubrication, or wear.

The technology takes this a decisive step further: The data collected is also intended to help identify potential actions that may be required.

How can the process be optimized? This is precisely where the further development of AiChuck comes in. RÖHM aims to use intelligent data analysis to create an intelligent decision-support tool for users. In addition to collecting and providing all relevant data via a machine interface using OPC UA, this includes training artificial intelligence (AI) using a digital twin in a continuous feedback loop, as well as interpreting and presenting different values through a Large Language Model.

“On the one hand, we take the burden of interpreting the data off our customers. On the other hand, we optimize the clamping process and gradually create a valuable ‘fingerprint’ of the machine,” explains Matthias Volz.

One of the key strengths of the AiChuck technology lies in the combination of integrated sensor technology, intelligent data analysis, and flexible jaw use. The sensor and measuring intelligence are not located in the interchangeable top jaw but directly in the base jaw.

As a result, clamping force and force transmission information is retained when the jaws are changed. Users do not need a separate intelligent measuring jaw for every jaw geometry. Instead, they can use a wide range of top jaws, from standard to custom jaws.

This makes AiChuck particularly interesting for production environments with frequently changing components and a wide variety of clamping tasks. At the same time, it provides significant support for process reliability in automated manufacturing.

Mill-Turn Chuck: More Clamping Force With a Reduced Overall Height

With the new Mill-Turn Chuck (RMT), RÖHM is presenting another trade show innovation at AMB. The chuck combines a self-centering, compensating four-jaw principle with a central drive spindle, enabling maximum precision in clamping force transmission.

Combined with the patented ACC technology (Adjustable Clamping Force Compensation), an adjustable centrifugal force compensation system, the clamping force can be precisely matched to the application, workpiece, and speed.

“The high clamping forces achieved in this way create process reserves for demanding machining operations and allow for greater depths of cut and higher feed rates,” explains Matthias Volz.

Another advantage is the overall height, which has been reduced by approximately 30 mm. This improves tool accessibility, increases collision safety, and creates ideal conditions for machining close to the clamping device as well as for clamping taller components.

As a result, even complex workpieces can be completely machined in a single setup.

“But the advantages of the Mill-Turn Chuck do not end there,” says Matthias Volz. “The lower weight reduces the load on the machine, increases the available payload, and improves suitability for machines with limited table load capacity.”

In short: Higher speeds, high clamping forces that can be precisely adjusted thanks to ACC technology, lower weight, and minimal interference contours deliver a significant increase in efficiency.

DURO-A Longlife: Sustainability Made by RÖHM

The second trade show innovation RÖHM is presenting in Stuttgart is also consistently focused on delivering customer value.

With the patented DURO-A Longlife power chuck for machine tools, up to 250,000 clamping cycles without manual maintenance are possible. Thanks to the use of coolant, manual lubrication is no longer required with this further development of the proven DURO-A three-jaw chuck.

“Eliminating synthetic and natural greases and lubricants not only reduces cleaning requirements but also represents a major advantage in terms of sustainability,” says Matthias Volz.

Another key benefit: By eliminating manual maintenance and lubrication intervals, interruptions are reduced and machine availability is maximized. As a result, available production time can be used more effectively.

Whether for single-part production or high-volume manufacturing, machine utilization becomes easier to plan. At the same time, consistent clamping force ensures high process reliability and reproducible component quality.

In addition, the DURO-A Longlife is compatible with nearly all machine interfaces and existing top jaws, making retrofitting particularly straightforward.

Visitors can experience the AiChuck world premiere and the two additional innovations live at AMB 2026 in Stuttgart from September 15 to 19 – at RÖHM in Hall 1, Stand 1E31.
